THE WYCLIFFE MINISTRY OF

Sonia Shannon

Sonia Shannon

Most Deaf children in the world lack proper education. According to the World Bank, in 2030 about 43% of children will still be learning-poor. In addition to limited schooling, most deaf children are language deprived. 95% of deaf children are born into hearing families and most parents do not learn Sign Language. Language deprivation sets deaf children at a disadvantage when they arrive at school.

Sonia Shannon is working with the Global Sign Languages Team (GSLT) focusing on Multilingual Deaf Education. She is currently presenting a software that will enable Deaf communities to create bilingual bicultural books. The creation of these sign language books will expose deaf children to their natural local sign language and to the written language of the community. It will also provide them with a means to access information, develop imagination and creativity, and promote cognitive development.

Sonia has been involved in the Deaf community since the mid 1980s.

Please prayerfully consider joining Sonia's Wycliffe ministry through prayer and/or financial partnership.

Wycliffe Ministry Budget

Wycliffe establishes a Ministry Budget for its members to reflect recurring expenses related to family factors and their geographic location of service. Giving to Wycliffe directly impacts members' ability to begin and remain in their assignment.

This monthly budget covers ministry-related expenses, insurance and retirement, social security and taxes, and Wycliffe administrative costs. The remainder is what the members receive as "take-home pay" for their daily living expenses.
