Phil grew up just outside of London, England and has always been interested in languages. His special interest is in tone in African languages. Cathy grew up in South Georgia in the US, the daughter of Carroll and Edna Crosby. Her special interest is in enabling people to read and write in their own language. Phil and Cathy met—and married!—in the Ivory Coast (Côte d’Ivoire), where Cathy was working as a literacy specialist and Phil had been involved in language survey. Today they serve wherever needed in Africa, primarily in francophone countries, consulting with teams and individuals and training colleagues to join them in the work.

Wycliffe establishes a Ministry Budget for its members to reflect recurring expenses related to family factors and their geographic location of service. Giving to Wycliffe directly impacts members' ability to begin and remain in their assignment.
This monthly budget covers ministry-related expenses, insurance and retirement, social security and taxes, and Wycliffe administrative costs. The remainder is what the members receive as "take-home pay" for their daily living expenses.
