THE WYCLIFFE MINISTRY OF

Clyde Smith

Clyde Smith

Clyde and Johanna have served in Papua New Guinea for many years. For nine years Johanna worked in the Yau language, and for twenty years Clyde worked in the Samo language. They were married in 2007, and Johanna joined Clyde and the Samo community. After testing an oral and multilingual approach, they gave six years to building capacity in the Evangelical Church of PNG to continue this new strategy for the wider northern Fly River area.

Now the Smiths are seconded to the Christian Leaders' Training College. Clyde teaches Translation Principles and several other courses, while Johanna teaches courses for wives who need a more basic program. Their aim is to "pass the torch" to the next generation of the Church serving in this part of the world. Their students hail from the broader region called Melanesia and represent the countries of Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.

Wycliffe Ministry Budget

Wycliffe establishes a Ministry Budget for its members to reflect recurring expenses related to family factors and their geographic location of service. Giving to Wycliffe directly impacts members' ability to begin and remain in their assignment.

This monthly budget covers ministry-related expenses, insurance and retirement, social security and taxes, and Wycliffe administrative costs. The remainder is what the members receive as "take-home pay" for their daily living expenses.
