Alan and Lucilia began the Jarawara translation project in Brazil in 1987. After Alan devised an orthography for the language, Lucilia taught a few young men to read and write in their own language, and also taught them how to teach others. Today virtually all the Jarawaras can read and write in their own language. Working with Jarawara translators, Alan translated Bible stories from the whole Bible, and these were published in six volumes. They also translated and published the New Testament, along with Daniel and Genesis from the Old Testament. Over the years Alan also helped colleagues with their projects as a linguistics consultant.
Alan and Lucilia retired from the Jarawara project and from Wycliffe in 2023, but Alan has continued with some of his activities as a part-time volunteer. Any further contributions for Alan and Lucilia should be preferenced for their Wycliffe retirement pension.

Wycliffe Ministry Budget
Wycliffe establishes a Ministry Budget for its members to reflect recurring expenses related to family factors and their geographic location of service. Giving to Wycliffe directly impacts members' ability to begin and remain in their assignment.
This monthly budget covers ministry-related expenses, insurance and retirement, social security and taxes, and Wycliffe administrative costs. The remainder is what the members receive as "take-home pay" for their daily living expenses.
